Today's Topic: Symbolism

Symbolism is great and all, but most of the time I just like making cool-looking shit. Pardon my language. However to say that some of my art isn't positively teeming with symbolism would be hypocritical, but the lesson is that the symbols are only important to me.

You may catch me criticizing those who analyze art and its supposed definitions. Let me just tell you now that I despise it when people try to push their conclusions on me like cold, hard facts (especially if I think a picture is ugly and required no talent to make it).

I noticed a long time ago that my brain just doesn't process visuals the way other artists' seem to do. The movement of a square means nothing to me. A red dot on black velvet has little to no significance in my eyes. Simplified figures are nice, but cavemen painted them millions of years before people decided they were fine art.

In all actuality those works probably did mean something to the people who made them, but like I said, that's a personal thing.

In short, I'm not artsy-fartsy. If you think art speaks to you then that's great and I have no problem with you sharing your opinion- but that's all it is. An opinion. So profess it like one in a way that doesn't sound pretentious and condescending. You're no more cultured than anyone else for having one.

Also, you'll notice people will roll their eyes a lot less if you're level with them about it.

I'm not going to tell you what my art means to me because I want to encourage you to guess and put forth your assumptions. Just use proper etiquette when you do it, that's all.
